Thunder nodded his head, "Exactly my thoughts," he murmered. His gaze shot warily to the side as he heard the sound of crunching leaves and then a rustle. Suddenly a rabbit shot out of the brush and toward a small hole that was probably it's burrow. Just at that moment a hawk dove down from above. It's claws clamped down on the rabbit as it came within inches of crashing and then swooped back up, flying off with it's catch.
It always made Thunder's heart turn cold when he saw death. It was a harsh world out here. Not many horse remembered what it was like to be around humans, and the few that did, didn't miss it. He himself didn't know anyone who remembered humans ever coming here. His mother had though and she had told him stories about their whips, the uncomfertable saddles and bridles. It caused him to shiver at the very thought of them. Also, humans were....naked! It was rather disturbing. These creatures with no fur what so ever except on their heads. Yuck! And they always smelled funny. Of course, he didn't know any of this from expierience. Just from what his mother had told him as a young child.
Thunder was still rather wary as he made his way back home. The wolves's scent still fresh in his mind. He was almost positive now that he hadn't imagined it. It was just too much of a coincedence that Midnight had told the herd leaders about wolves and then he scented them. His nose twitched slightly. "How was your day so far?" he asked, just to cover the silence that had etched between him and Missi.

Missi smiled at Thunder hesitantly. She had known that he would agree, of course, but she was relieved all the same.He did seem like a reasonable sort of stallion- not the type at all to feel threatened or angry at a simple suggestion from his subordinate, but still..she hadn't been able to help that little kernel of niggling worry that she would say or do something wrong.
She sidestepped in surprise when she heard the rabbit's dying cry as the hawk swooped down and then away with it, shuddering. Neither had really caught her attention until the rabbit became the hawk's dinner and it was only then that it disturbed her. Death was..sad.. It was true that the hawk needed to kill the rabbit to live but that didn' t make it any less sad for Missi.
Attempting to play it off as though it hadn't bothered her, she looked back to Thunder as she followed along after him. "It's been..wonderful, so far. Th-thanks to you."she said softly, mumbling the last bit to the point that it might be difficult to hear. "And yours?"
((A new thread in the Plains sounds like a good idea to me.))

Thunder glanced toward the hawk as it carried off it's prey, the dead rabbit, probably up to it's nest. For a brief moment he wondered if the rabbit had had a family. He shuddered at the thought. Perhaps for rabbits it wasn't as important when a family member died. Somehow he doubted it though. All animals had feelings, no matter how small they were.
He quickly smiled at Missi, shaking away his thoughts of death and sadness, "Mine's been fine I suppose. I wouldn't want to jinx it though. It's happened to often that I say its been a wonderful day....and the next thing I know....something bad happens," he said, his tone light and conversational.

((Sure, I'll just make my reply apart of the new thread instead of typing two posts ))
