With a slew of startled clucking and a flash of feathers, a single pheasant burst into flight.
Glancing up at the canopy, Geisha accidentally caught a glimpse of it in flight; no more than a blur of banded tawny and red. Her tangled pale hair was across her face, her ankles caught in the underbrush's snare- rake-marks from reaching thorns and whippy branches skimmed her skin in red. She was tired, a little hard of breath, but that was from exhaustion- the product of a soft harem girl's headlong, naive trek through rougher country than she had ever crossed in her life. It was no matter. She had hiked once before, and she had turned out all right then. Besides, with the path she had taken, there was no chance any of the men her old master had rallied to find her could still be on her trail. She no longer feared pursuit.
She did not know she had other things to fear.
((The setting is in a thorny ravine on the border between the Plains and the Mountains. I'll reference the wolves that are currently marauding around there, but they won't actually show up- they've got too much sense to go where Geisha is.))

Thunder was bored and that was why he was going on a small round around his territory, which he ordinarily didn't do. Everything seemed quiet and normal, nothing out of the ordinary. Well, that was until he reached the small grove of trees between his territory and Midnight's. His ears flicked forward as he heard the sound of movement. Standing curiously for a moment, he hesitated, and then moved toward the sound.
His muscles flexed as he wove his way through the trees, his gaze glancing warily around to make sure he wasn't about to be ambushed by some predator. But the air smelled strongly of a creature he found himself well aquanted with. A mare. Just as he folloed the small path he was on around a bend, he saw what was making the noise. A mare. And a pretty one at that.
He smirked slightly to himself and then sauntered over. "Why hello there," he said.

Geisha almost choked. Her heart had leapt up through her throat and taken off running, like a rabbit. She made a strangled little eeping noise. Haltingly, the palomino mare turned, blood beating a maddening tempo in her ears. Her face flushed so much she almost couldn't see. There. On the brink of the ravine, in the sunlight. A chestnut stallion. Oh no. ... "H-hello, milord. W-what brings you here?" He could not be searching for her. He could not. Her master's was five days gone, over the most untraceable terrain she could find. It could not be. It could not be.
((Bleeeh. Nasty muse, she's tormenting me today. XP I just hope that meets minimum word count. Gehh...))

Thunder tilted his head to the side, his eyes mischievious. The mare seemed increasingly nervous. At first he considered it to be a normal reaction. Mares often were afraid of stallions. But then he realized that her fear was too irrational for that. He was curious to know why she was so afraid. But he had other things on his mind as well.
The mare was very pretty. And milord? Where had she come from? No horse he knew ever said something like that. Then again. He kind-of liked it. He smirked and studied her for a moment longer before saying, "I'm Thunder." His ears twitched slightly as a bird overhead suddenly took flight. "Now what would a fine young mare be doing way out here?" he asked, his voice generally casual.

Geisha stared as if transfixed. The halo of light behind the stallion, not to mention the mesh of branches between... anything and anything else, really... made reading his expression difficult. But she thought... But she thought... A coy smile spread across his face. Her heart faltered, then skipped ahead a few beats. What was he thinking? She could see gears turning behind his eyes. There was a... devilish gleam there. She did not see it. She only saw him thinking- thinking, thinking, puzzling over who she was and what she was doing there. ...which meant... "I... am afraid I am quite lost, milord. Can you tell me where I am?" If he was looking for herm her identity would be a no-brainer. How many dappled palomino concubines could one expect to find in the woods? No, this Thunder had to be here by chance. Her voice still faltered, but she had better luck projecting it now- clear and melodious, like the note of a golden bell. The art of speaking -as well as that of song- had been one especially prized by her instructors at the combine. Geisha had not been head of the class -really, the only things she absolutely excelled at were beauty and bearing- but she had been top grade.

Thunder smirked, "Lost? Now thats a real pitty," he said. He took a step toward her, his gaze racking over her again. He walked toward her, his tail swishing at a fly that had landed on his back. He began to circle her, as he spoke. "Well," he said, his voice calculating, "I suppose I could help you. Did you have a certain destination in mind?" he asked.
((I'm changing the word min. to 50 words. My muse is way too low at the moment >>))

"Nay, fine sir." Her fair voice tremored with disbelief. And delight. He would help her? He would help her? She watched as he descended into the chasm, heart pounding now with relief. With this stallion's aid... He knew the terrain. He could get her far from this place, faster than both she and her pursuers. And, if worst came to worst, he would provide a cover for her- she was his mare, she had always been his mare- of course. He might even fight for her.
Her constricted chest loosened, and Geisha sighed deep, rhythmic breaths, an appreciative smile pulling at her lips. A new light dawned in her eyes.
A strand of her dishelved mane dangled in front of her face, bent over backward. It lent her a just-rolled-out-of-bed air, and coupled with the gasping sighs, and gleaming face, she cut a very ...fine figure indeed. Her laughter broke like golden bells.
"Nay, milord. No destination at all!"

Thunder smiled, though looked more like a smirk. "Well, why don't you come along with me. I can take you someplace safe," he said and he turned to go but glanced behind him to make sure Geisha was coming.
