It was a nice day. The sun was out and offered warmth but wasn't too hot as to provoke discomfort. White clouds passed by above and a gentle breeze brushed against her flanks, cool and welcoming. A black Arabian mare made her way over the crevasses, twists, and turns of her home-land, the land of her birth.
Her hoof-steps were light and soft as she trotted along, her chocolate gaze looking around her every once in a while. Nothing caught her interest, everything was just as she had left it. The air had that smell it always had after rain-fall, and carried the scent of flowers and fresh grass. It had rained only two days ago, and the mountain was still a bit slippery in some places, but otherwise, the mountains spoke of fresh freedom.
Midnight smiled as she continued to walk. Higher and higher she climbed, jumping up parts and following the small, worn-out trail in other places. From just the way she moved around anyone could see that she knew this place very well. She walked with confidence, no hesitance at all in her step, and with a quick grace that she had gained with practice. She could never get lost here. She knew every nook and cranny, every trail and jutting rock of her home. Even as a foal, she had had a good sense of everything here. That had only been enhanced with age.
Midnight had a destination in mind as she climbed higher and higher and she was almost there. She stood still for a moment, studying the trail ahead of her and then glancing up to the rocks above her, and then backed up a few paces. Then she began to run as fast as she could.
She loved to do this, running up the last part of the trail. Her mane whipped around and her tail streamed out behind her. With a soft whinny she reared back just as she reached the end of the trail and twisted around. She was standing at the very top of the mountain. It was a small plateau of rock, and from it she could see for miles around. Midnight grinned and let the wind whip at her mane as she looked around The Mountains. This was her place, and she wouldn't give it up without a fight.

Spring. A beautiful season of rain as well as sunshine with the tint of heat mixed with the cold. A nice feeling it is too. The blue sky shined with the unforgettable sun providing enough warmth and energy for the day. A welcoming breeze sent the black Friesian's mane flying out past his face. He made quick, long strides over the grass to the mountains.
With a low and wistful smirk, Princeston's Pride, otherwise known as Princeston, made his way to the opening of a path onto the trails that were so worn out. His eyes jerked up with anticipation as he saw a black mare, an arabian from the looks of it, clopping up the stone path. He made quiet steps as he continued his way up the long trail.
Princeston knew the mountains well and was good with the finding of things. His eyes had been set on this land for years, but he never made his move for it. He had been waiting for the right chance. Along with waiting, Princeston had also been dealing with Legacy, a bay arabian mare, who had been badly hurt by a stallion before him. Now, Princeston is protective over her and she is the only mare that he will not harm. He lowered his eyes for a moment to look at the path below him and then in front of him.
Princeston narrowed his eyes as he stepped in areas that were safe to step on. He moved gracefully, letting his large black hooves carry him to the top of the mountain where the mare was. He smiled evilly to himself as he thought things through. His chocolate eyes were kind, but hard all at the same time. He continued to walk on as he got closer to the top. Bobbing his head, he made it to the top and let out a nicker of hello.

Midnight had been so preoccupied with herself that she hadn't been worried about any horses taking her by surprise. It had been weeks now since the last stallion had tried to kick her down from her position as lead mare. It was probably one of the last things on her mind.
She had heard rumors of a new stallion walking around The Mountains. A black one going by the name of Princeston. Midnight had only snorted at that. Another stallions would equal either another fight or a new member to her herd. Either way, she didn't care really. She was confident that nothing would happen and everything would go the way it had for the past 2 years.
So she was really taken by surprise when she heard a greeting nickered to her from behind her. Midnight lifted her head and wheeled to face the new comer. Her eyes narrowed as she saw him. She had never seem him before, so she quessed he was the stag she had heard about before, Princeston. She wasn't going to let on though that she knew who he was.
So instead she looked at the black horse quizically. "I'm Midnight," she said, just as a formality. Her tail swished back and forth as she studied him, her chocolate gaze betraying nothing. She was trying to determine what he was planning. She knew this plateau well so she wasn't worried if it came to a fight. As a matter of fact, she had already shuved two stags up here back down the path and sent them running with several bruises. Why would this one be any different? No reason at all.
"Can I help you?" she asked, her gaze still wary and careful. She didn't like the look of this stag, he had an air about him that made her slightly uneasy.

Princeston watched the mare who hadn't seen him coming up the mountain. It seemed she was too preoccupied with herself. It seemed she had a big ego which would give Princeston a good match. He smiled reassuringly. Princeston was one who started out nice, but ended out being the complete oppisite of kind-hearted.
A stubborn stallion he was. A rude, masochistic stallion he was and he knew he was, but he didn't care. He loved having fun and forcebreeding mares. It was in his nature to do so. That was all he was taught as he child and so of course he would be one to take pity on lost mares. Or well that's what they thought. Princeston smiled. "I'm Princeston's Pride, but please call me Princeston," he told her.
His eyes didn't move from hers. He wasn't wanting to make it seem so obvious of what he was planning. His black tail slapped flies as they landed on his back. Shaking his head, he thought of everything he was going or trying to do. Princeston looked to the ground to see where all he could step and the where abouts of everything. "I'm not sure if you could really help me with anything..." Princeston said with small smile, a smirk in his head.
Princeston was very good with mares. He was able to lure them in and then give them the truth of what they just got themselves into. Sometimes he thought of becoming good, but that was only because of Legacy and she got her hopes, but he failed her. Princeston would most likely never get to the point where he stops forcebreeding and claiming mares that way.

Ah, so she had been right. This was Princeton. Well it wasn’t such a surprise; there weren’t exactly many black Friesian stallions around here. Most horses were mixes these days. Very few were solid breeds. As a matter of fact she only knew of a few; Dahlia, Thunder, herself, and now Princeton. All the horses in her herd were mixes except herself.
Midnight watched Princeton and saw that his eyes were on her. It made her feel rather uncomfortable, but of course she didn’t show it. Her face remained a calm expression, completely devoid of emotion. Her dark chocolate eyes looked back at him, studying him intently, trying to determine what he wanted. Princeton’s black tail slapped flies as they landed on his back and shook his head. Then Princeston looked down at the ground. "I'm not sure if you could really help me with anything..." Princeston said with small smile.
Midnight snorted, “If that’s the case, then I suggest you get out of my sight,” she said icily, “And out of my territory while your at it.” She had decided that she didn’t like him. He had a glint in his eyes that made her feel very uneasy. Her eyes flashed for the slightest fraction of a second. A small prickle of fear caused her to stiffen warily. Her instincts were practically screaming at her that this stallion was not a good one, that he was not to be trusted, and that she should run.
The black Arabian mare didn’t need to look around to see where she was. She knew this place practically by heart. She knew that to her left was a small, old path that would lead her to the valley below where her herd was. From up here she could only just make out the small dots that made up her herd. Princeton stood in front of the trail that she had used to get up here. A large boulder stood to her right, crumbly and sharp.
A memory from only a few months ago kept moving up to her head again and again. The memory was of her, here, in the exact same place that she was now. But instead of Princeton, there was a dark brown Thoroughbred before her, Thunder. Midnight had turned her back to run down to her herd, but Thunder moved after her, an intent in her eyes. Midnight had whinnied in anger and kicked him in the face. Thunder wheeled back, howling in pain. Midnight turned and bounded down the hill to her herd, leaving Thunder to howl in rage and pain.
Midnight smiled at the memory. But she quickly refocused on Princeton. She wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. She wasn’t going to turn her back to him.

Princeston eyed her for a moment. From the looks of it, she was a purebred arabian. That seemed rare these days that he only knew of four other purebreds. Three were mares and the other was a purebred thoroughbred stallion with the mind of the devil. War Admiral was one of the worst stallions he had ever known and was the one that he saved Legacy from. A mare that had come very close to death itself.
Shaking his head, Princeston pushed the memory out of his mind. he had more important things at the moment to be thinking of. He listened to her wary and icily voice. He repressed a smirk and thought of a question. His eyes softened a bit, not letting any other emotion get loose.
"I am very sorry for bothering you, but I am looking for a horse whose name escapes my mind." Princeston paused thinking. It seemed a stallion would seem less threatening to her and would present him more of a safe stallion. "I was wondering if you ahve seen an outsider come through this area?" the brute questioned the mare.
Feeling a bit anxious, Princeston glanced at her before looking over the mountin and seeing a small herd beneath. He had passed the horses on his way up to the tippy top of the mountain.

Midnight didn't completetly relax, but her icyness imediatly lessened. Her eyes looked absently over Princeton, her body language indigating disinterest. "If you had a name I might be able to help you. Many horses come through the mountains from the mainland after all. But most horses that come through stay to rest down in the valley for a while. If you would like, I'll take you down and you can see if you can find this horse," she said.
She looked down at her herd below, counting them for a moment. There were at least 2 outsiders that weren't part of her herd down there. Perhaps one of them was the horse that Princeton was looking for.
All the same, she was still semi-suspicious. She had been through too much to drop her gaurd that easily. She smiled at the Fresien and then looked back down at her herd, waiting for the stallion to say a reply to her offer.

Princeston sensed her immediate change. He hid is well though so she wasn't able to see his delight. She was still uncomfortable, but this would be a whole lot easier now that she lightened up. "That would be very much appreciated," he answered warmly. He smiled softly as he glanced around the peak.
Princeston shook his coat as small gnats and flies rested. His eyes became warmer as he looked back at the black mare before him. He wasn't quite sure how many of the herd members were outsiders. One good thing for him, was that he was really wasn't looking for any horse. He knew where his best friend was and knew she was safe and out of hooves of War Admiral.

Midnight was rather oblivious to Princeton’s thoughts. She had convinced herself that she was just a suspicious young fool and that she had just over reacted. Of course, she had full reason to be, having had enough trouble with stallions. Lone lead mare with no mate didn’t go well with landless stallions. Midnight always snorted when one of the older members of her herd told her that it would be smarter to find a lead stallion to help her lead. What would be the point of that! It would be like giving in and saying that mares couldn’t lead herds! And that was one thing that Midnight would not stand for.
The young mare nodded, “Very well then,” she said, “lets go.” And with that being said, she took a dainty step to her side. She glanced at Princeton one more time before passing him. Her tail swished slightly from side to side as she passed. “Well come on,” she said and turned her back on the stallion.

She hadn't noticed anything. Not one single thought or emotion of his was recongnisable. Princeston smiled and watched for a moment. How could she have not noticed? Well then again, he was good at pretending. One thing was for sure, Midnight was obviously good at leading and it was obvious that she cared for her herd whether they agreed with her or not.
Princeston smiled to himself as she spoke and walked on. His eyes became hard as she walked in front of him. One thought came to his mind: Was she in heat? Princeston became cross at once hoping she was. Taking every step carefully behind her and making sure he was quiet yet not too quiet as to where she expected anything.

Midnight trotted down the trail, her tail swishing from side to side. She glanced over her shoulder toward Princeston. She was just being paranoid, she told herself over and over again. Perhaps it was because she was in heat that she was being overly paranoid and suspicious.
The young mare continued her rolling trot as she continued down toward the valley that was the home of her herd. She wove along the trail with a confidence that could only come with experience. She glanced behind her again toward Princeton. He wasn''t acting suspicious so she turned ahead again, walking in silence.

His eyes glanced at her as he smelt the air. Ah...she was in heat. Princeston smirked to himself. Before doing anything rash, he looked around making sure no one else was around. It was his time to pounce.
Princeston smiled as he kept his pace the same for a few more seconds and then got faster with each step. He walked as fast as he could until he was right behind her. His muzzle could touch her rump that's how close he was. His eyes focused on her every movent before looking her over. Princeston reared and smirked.
With in seconds he was on top of her, mounting and releasing his seed. He dismounted and looked at her with an evil sort of laugh. Princeston's thoughts thought of what Legacy would think. Oh well, she will never know, he thought.

Midnight let out a loud scriek. Her mind wouldn't accept what had just happened. Her head snapped around, her eyes flared with anger. She twisted around, rearing back on her hind legs. "You little bastard!" she practically howled in anger. "What was that for!?" and she aimed a kick at his head with her front legs.
So she had been right to worry. She had been right to be paranoid. No stallions had ever managed to force breed her, and yet this stallions, who she didn't even really know, had done it, and she hadn't even been able fight back. Her eyes flashed again. But it was more in panic than anything else. What was she to do now!? She'd worry about that later, for now, she wanted to hurt Princeston in any way she could.

Princeston smirked and backed up a bit as she went to kick his head. "Well, little lady, haven't ever heard not to talk to strangers? Especially talking to stallions you don't know." he said with a low, evil grin. His eyes got hard again before he reared at her. What was she going to do? Princeston landed on his front legs again with a loud thud and pranced in place.
He shook his head to get his forelock out of his eyes. With a smirk, Princeston jogged back up the mountain. He wondered if she would follow...or what she would do. Looking over the mountain at her, he spoke, "Welcome to Hell!" A laugh came from his mouth and he gave a loud whinny.

Midnight snorted, her eyes narrowing as Princeston moved away. She wanted to go after him and kick him, this time hopefully she would get him. But would that be smart? Perhaps she should go back down to her herd and hope to hell that she wasn't going to bear a foal. But she so badly wanted to hurt him.
She decided to go after him. She trotted back up the mountain to where Princeston was, her eyes flared slightly. "Oh course I have, you idiot," she said, her voice dangerously low. "And just so you know, you'd better keep an eye behind you because I'm going to kill you if I can," she said.
